Live Volcano Eruption on Iceland > In Youtube

Eruption started yesterday, Monday, December 18, at 22:18 LT.
after two more than 4 magnitudes earthquakes.
Eruption lava fountains/jets were about 30-60 m high at midnight,
now the outbursting jets are about 15-30 m high.
The whole eruption area is like a river in lava fire, more than 4 km long
main line of eruption is close to Sundhnukur, 3 km East from small hill Sylingafell.
About 6 km East from powerstation Svartsengi and worldwide famous basin of
warm thermal Blue Lagoon (now temporarily closed due volcanic activity).

(On image the erupting lava river is marked with red line)

The eruption is very close also to earlier fully evacuated fishermans city - Grindavik.
(about 4000 inhabitants) - as close as 6 km from city.
(Not seen on map - city is 4 km to South from highest hill in area - Thorbjörn - 243 m from sea level)
The eruption data, according to local volcanologists - bursts out about 100 m3 lava /per sec.
Outburst lava streams are flowing down to the East from eruption river.
Yellow line on map - is a motorway from Reykjavik (north) to Grindavik (south).

Thanks for the update. Knew about the eruption, just not about the direct impact on land and people.

Its all the people and companies fighting X that is causing problems for Elon Musk. Those people think that a free minded social media company is a threat to their hold on power.

    11 February

International Day of Women in Science.

HILDEGARD VON BINGEN, Benedictine nun who excelled as a physicist, philosopher, naturalist, composer (she is said to have been a forerunner of opera) and poet. Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179) was born into a German noble family, wrote texts on health and sexuality in particular, and was the first to write about the female orgasm from a scientific and liberating point of view. Known as the greatest scholar in medieval history, she dealt with dietary guidelines for curing amenorrhoea in 'Causa et curae'. She also wrote works on medicine, natural science or physiology, in books such as 'Libertad Scivias' or 'Physica (Liber Simplicis Medicinae)'. Hildegard von Bingen was such an extremely relevant figure in history that if she had been a man, she would be as well known today as many other geniuses such as Newton or Leonardo Da Vinci.

Trota of Salerno, She became the first woman to deal with gynaecology and obstetrics. Thanks to the foundation of the first secular medical school in the 11th century, women were able to have access to extensive medical knowledge. Trota of Salerno was able to benefit from this fact, and was trained as a physician capable of treating diseases such as cancer, eye pain and skin problems. This woman is considered the first gynaecologist in history, the scientist fought to prove that infertility was not only to be attributed to women, but that it could also be caused by men. She addressed other revolutionary issues such as eliminating the belief that all ailments suffered by women stemmed from menstruation. Due to her extensive knowledge and a wide-ranging work on subjects such as pregnancy, childbirth and fertility, voices were raised to give the authorship of these texts to her husband, asserting the impossibility of a woman being able to know and speak about such complex subjects.

ADA LOVELACE, A mathematician and writer from England, Ada Lovelace (1815-1852) was the first programmer of her time. She received a private education, focusing strictly on mathematics. When she met the scientist Charles Babbage, she was extremely impressed by his invention, the analytical machine, considered the forerunner of computers. So much so that she undertook professional work consisting of translating a French article on the machine, to which she added explanatory notes that ended up doubling the length of the work. Ada Lovelace was the first person to write a valid algorithm to be processed, her most famous contribution to mathematics and computing, as well as discovering the possibility of processing other symbols such as musical notes or letters.

KATHERINE JOHNSON, Was an African-American woman with an innate talent for mathematics. The racial segregation of the time did not prevent her from becoming a key player in NASA's space missions. She had to graduate from an institute specifically for African-Americans, the West Virginia Colored Institute. She earned degrees in mathematics and French, both of which she taught. Her intelligence, leadership and astounding career made her a beacon for NACA, the predecessor of NASA. She developed calculations for the Mercury Project and calculated the parabolic trajectory of Alan Shepard's space flight, among many other achievements. But she did not stop there; the mathematician calculated the trajectory of Apollo 11, which would later take man to the moon in 1969, as well as helping during a series of unforeseen events that arose with Apollo 13. Her fight for science and her rights led her to win numerous awards such as the US Presidential Medal of Freedom and Mathematician of the Year in 1997.

World Theatre Day is celebrated on 27 March every year and was created by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) in 1961. Its main objective is to raise awareness of what theatre represents for culture worldwide.

I guess the ancients knew what theater was all about well before 1961.

That's a pretty depressing and cynical view of humanity. I agree some, okay a lot are that way but not all. There are many here on this forum that are the direct opposite of "dumb as bricks". That's why I like it here. Many different viewpoints expressed and discussed openly and intelligently (for the most part).

22 April is International Mother Earth Day, an official holiday proclaimed by the United Nations in its resolution A/RES/60/192 of 22 December 2005.

International Mother Earth Day has been officially celebrated since 2005 with the aim of raising awareness of the problems caused by overpopulation, pollution, biodiversity conservation and other environmental concerns.

Each year, a theme is chosen to celebrate International Mother Earth Day. The theme for 2024 is "Planet vs. plastics".

The need to end plastics for the sake of human health and the planet is fundamental and urgent. It calls for a 60% reduction in plastic production by 2040. Because we breathe them, we eat them and they make us sick.
