    In every up-scale shoe store.
They were still in use up to the early 60's.

I had to get "corrected" shoes because of that thing.
I think it was a store called "Duane's Shoes".

Brutus is correct. They had these in shoe stores and they x-rayed your feet in the shoe to see if it fit correctly. This was before they knew about radiation exposure.

They were used even after the knowledge using too much of x-rays was harmful, but they were such a
regular part of shoe buying for a lot of people that the use was continued until the stores were forced
to stop using them. (That and they were a great "draw" for customers who wanted better fitting shoes.

I to this day believe those "corrective" shoes are responsible for my extremely high instep. With a regular
tie-up shoe, I have to spread the lacing part fully open to get my foot in.
Makes for buying any slip on-including house slippers, almost impossible to find that fit me.

They did not have any x ray in them just a slot in the back where the store slid in an x ray to fit the person being x rayed . Finally the gov made them take them out of the stores . I also was told I needed corrective shoes but my Doctor told my mom to throw them in the trash , they were doing more harm than good .

    Aren't we sharp today?
    I will keep the silence,...

Some don't have to think hard to remember when running water was still the new thing in the neighborhood. While some just don't get what is so funny with #metoo, But that's the world, life, it changes...
