    Why doesn't god go like:

    "Yoohoo! I'm here!" to everyone?

That would help convincing us atheists.

Indeed! But instead, he goes all like "You can't see me, you can't hear me, yet, if you don't believe in me, you go to Hell"
Sounds like an asshole to me

What I think is hilarious is humans deciding or even insisting who/what God is. Total role reversal. If you think there's a god, show some damn respect. ;-b

(Disclaimer: I'm a Christian agnostic and have my own ideas about faith and truth that are not fundamentally founded in belief)

that's kinda the role of religion, to keep us not moving forward, though. To not 'think' but just get down on our knees and pray to the All Mighty!

I will never understand Richard Dawkins' attitude on this and that does not satisfy me AT ALL.

Not a fan of religion. I view it as a way to control people

It was good enough that I might do some editing on it to block that one part. Does not actually effect it at all.

The "modern version" of Refuge Cities...

A couple years ago the State of Wisconsin reached a Consent Agreement with the archdiocese* of Milwaukee to establish what I would term a "privately run minimum security prison." 177 persons, mostly defrocked priests, under state indictment, have "retired" and are now housed on archdiocese property. They are not permitted to leave the property except individually under escort to medical appointments, or they will be criminally prosecuted by the state.

They do it here too. Church sanctuaries, where they can live a meaningful life and contemplate on and seek atonement for their past misdeeds.

I figure they could do the same in Millhaven.

now these are assholes for sure. Can't believe its happening in our country. Well, if it had to happen somewhere, it had to be in the 'middle provinces', since they are more christians and conservatives than the others, less progressive

I don't recall anyone posting that it still isn't happening, other than one member saying the being "in the past" was in reference
to it going on un-checked and un-punished. Especially in the past RCC.

The RCC (and most other Christian Churches) are doing a lot more to vet those who work in the church.
But, they do so because they know it is still going on, but the perpetrators are doing a much better job of
    doing it more secretly.

There are plenty of reports of where it is the norm in a lot of the non-Christian churches and nations.
In some of those sects, they just don't turn a blind eye, they all but encourage it.

As long as you have adults working with children, it will happen.

    Organized religion is about power.

As Lord Acton said, "Power tends to corrupt: absolute power corrupts absolutely."

That quote is actually from a letter to Bishop Creighton about papal abuses through history.
