The worst book to screen adaptation I've seen is "Beastmaster". I'm not saying the movies themselves are bad. I'm saying that they are totally different than from the book.

Other adaptations that were poor are:
"Starship Troopers", "Avatar: The Last Airbender", "Tarzan", "Sherlock Holms", "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", "I Robot", "Battlestar Galactica", "2001 A Space Odyssey", "Planet of the Apes"

Well, to be fair, Starship Troopers is indeed a 'bad adaptation' but it still is a MASTERPIECE

I thought it was a sci-fi movie, but it turned out to be a comedy.

Not a bad list. Can we add "Dune" (the first one) to it?

Denis Villeneuve's Dune is a MASTERPIECE and a good adaptation. Proud of that Quebecois :)

A pretty good job of taking a book to the screen: The Stand.

But it took a mini series to do it, maybe that's the better approach.

I'm waiting to see if the "Foundation" movie does justice to the books.

I haven't been able to read books lately, because my close up eye sight is deteriorating and its hard to read the small print. Reading glasses help, but I can't wear them for the time needed to read an entire novel. I do listen to audiobooks from time to time.

That's what I posted . The first Dune movie was "meh". Neither good nor bad.

Clark's "2010" was a good read, a total POS as a movie. It was like they never even viewed the movie of "2001".

They had to leave so much out of "The Stand", even doing a mini-series. It should have been a full season showing.

I did like the screen adaption of King's "The Langoliers".

Also, Christie's "And Then There Were None" was done well as a movie. (The book title was changed 3 times.)

John Grisham is a favorite as the main character is usually a lawyer instead of a detective.

Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of Dune was a masterpiece, though

But the HALO tv show adaptation was BAD lol, as Rings of Power will be

I did not enjoy " The Neverending Story" - Movies that much, too much changed when comparing the book by Michael Ende.*

Michael Ende himself even did not like the movies and let his name to be removed from the credits.

If you have read the book, and then see the movie, the movie will almost always disappoint you.

If you see a movie, you may think hey, that was pretty good. So then you read the book, and end up enjoying both.

I agree, wasn't very much like the book at all. Some points were the same, but not much.
Was one of the movies "Ten Little Indians".

The book's original title was "Ten Little Niggers" Publisher Changed it for the 2nd printing to "And Then There Were None".
Next edition was "Ten Little Indians" , which was used for the live stage adaption.

Movie producers went with "And Then There Were None".
