The big problem is people dont want to read things they dont agree with. Or at all in many cases. I have read Mein Kampf as a Jew. Communist Manefesto as a Reasonable Mixed Economy supporter. I have read Machiavelli because he is nuts.

It is a big mistake not to read those who do not think as you do, not to listen to those who have a contrary opinion, as long as it is expressed politely and respectfully. If we must reject a particular class of people, it is the fanatics.

    TittyKitty, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :):):):):):)

The best way to defeat your enemy, or an ideology, is to study it.

Most people want to read only something that takes them to a happy place.

if you want some light readings that are nice, I recommend:
    - The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi, 1645
    - The Art of War, by Sun Tzu
    - The Republic, by Plato
    - The Manifest, by Karl Marx
    - Starship Troopers, by Robert A. Heinlein, which is a good critic of totalitarism, militarism, xenophobia, Facism and Communism
    - Existentialism is a humanism, by Jean Paul Sartre

Starship Troopers is an easier digest with the movie though. They went heavy handed with the uniforms though. NPH looked absolute SS.

The movie is a MASTERPIECE and a great critics of totalitarism. And many people never realize that, in the movie, Humans are the bad guys lol

Um, I disagree. But disagree on the Bugs are the Good Guys. I always saw it as bad guys vs slightly less bad guys. To use Pro Wrestling terms. It is not a Heel vs Face. It is the rare Heel vs Heel.

well, the Federation says that the Bugs attacked Buenos Aires (but its highly improbable, as they can't know where other planets are, the Bugs have no technology at all in the movie) And also, if the Bugs had indeed attacked, it would be in retaliation for the Mormon settlers coming to settlers in their territory.
So the movie is pretty much about a militaristic, expensionist Human Federation trying to exterminate the Bugs, who only want to live in peace on their worlds. (Each Bug colony is independant, as they have no communications, no tech at all) so if Klendathu was the source of the attack on Buenos Aires, only Klendathu was responsible, and not all the Bug colonies.

But the movie is really "Federation - bad guys, Bugs = Good Bugs"

Other light readings that are good critics are:
    - 1984 by Orwell
    - Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

On the subject of Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land would get my vote.

Science fiction becoming reality? City, by Clifford D. Simak.

    Love those books.
It's a shame more hasn't come to be like the future writings of Isaac Asimov!
