Hi all. I been a member a long long time. What the hey is with all these popups lately? I can't even view pics anymore without going into pop up hell with no way out. I never ran into this before and it sucks. I have a mac so please don't offer me advice about windows stuff and yes I am using popup blocker which I never needed on this wonderful site till recently.

it's not spyware and no it does not exist on macs. in fact there has not been a single virus/hack/spyware yet that has infected macs. These are popups when clicking on the thumbnails

I guess that's why there aren't any spyware scanners on mac. Oh, wait, there is at least one, MacScan  .
Now back to topic . Do these thumbnails lead to pictures that are uploaded on some other hosting sites, like imagevenue, or are they on this site. I don't have any issues with popups on this site. Imagevenue is another story, they changed their behavior noticeably in last few months. |

I really have not checked as to where they lead. Sometimes I can close the popup and see the pic sometimes not

The pop up you are seeing are from the image hosting sites, such as imagevenue, etc... This is a copy from another discussion about it from Dobbler...AU contraire!! I have discovered a very useful tool. "No Script" a Mozilla Firefox add on. This is a Java script blocker. You only allow Java script from the site you want. (imagavenue) not the other ones {cont. to your image 4,3,2,1 . . } I recommend it.

Ahh dear Jen, saying Mac's never get a virus is like those lulled into believing Obama is a Massiah.
While they are few I have read of some viruses being aimed at Mac's and
some have learned the hard way.
They now have virus checkers to look for them.
There are also some cookies, or items stealthly inserted into your browser that can get you hijacked to other sites.
I had that problem so I now delete cookies and Temp Internet Files every time I close my browser.
While I use Windows XP, I will run Ad-Aware, or if the computer gets sluggish I run Spybot. Once a week or so I will also run Wise's Registry Cleaner. Some stuff gets hidden in the Registry that spy checkers can miss. Note, sometimes Spybot and Ad Aware will catch what the other doesn't which is why I run both.
