Today, Thursday June 21st, is the 2018 Summer Solstice.

And this is the wonderful day of the year where here in the Northern Hemisphere, the Sun shines overhead for the longest duration of time.

The sun rises through the stones at Stonehenge in Wiltshire, England,
as crowds gather at 4:52 am to celebrate the dawn of the year's longest day in the UK.

At first blush, a person might conclude that today must also be the hottest day of the year, because we get the most sunlight - but that is rarely the case.

Can anyone explain why that would be ?
