    A good rule of thumb that helps is to not use contractions. For example say “you are” rather than try to figure when to use ‘your’ or ‘you’re’.

    Also, in case it hasn’t been mentioned, dessert and desert can be remembered by saying you like to eat lots of dessert which comes with multiple ‘s’, but you only want to walk through the desert once, which has only one ‘s’.

    It’s a ‘moot’ point (i.e. the controversy ceasing to exist) , not a ‘mute’ point (i.e. a silencing if volume).
