I always liked horses, they are majestic animals. But had never anything to do with them, having grown up a city boy.
But in my youth horses were often seen in the city, in winter they often slipped on the icy road and fell, then the bastard coachman
would whip the shit out of them, trying to get them back on their feet.
It was infuriating to watch, but as kids we could not do anything.
Sometimes people would bring sacks to put under their hooves, helping them back up.
