    English -

Tar: a dark, thick, flammable liquid distilled from wood or coal, consisting of a mixture of hydrocarbons, resins, alcohols, and other compounds

    American -

Tar: y'all change it at the side da road when it goes flat

    I rest my case.

    :p

What you say is quite correct Pussycat...and they spell it :TIRE (as in meaning to want to sleep. Of course, the correct way to spell that black rubber item on the wheel is TYRE.....but you cannot teach them this).

I am on the understanding that "Slisse" asked for help with his ENGLISH....not AMERICAN...???

    The Defence rest its case......

American English is now the Lingua Franca of the World. The rest of the world are learning American English, even England is beginning to adjust its vocabulary, albeit slowly. Minor differences are currently ignored, but eventually everyone and everything will come around.

How many American idioms are being adopted in England, Australia, and New Zealand. How many American Movies and TV shows are shown in those countries, compared to the reverse. It may take a while, but it will happen.

Yes I am, but please do not think that ALL of Americans can't use proper English.
I know I am in the minority, but read some of my posts. I write the same way I speak.

I totally agree that American English is very grammatically incorrect, especially when you add to it Ebonics.
Ebonics is more than a different dialect. Different dialects are usually based by pronunciation, but Ebonics
is a total disaster and perversion of English grammar, both proper English and American English.
It is based on language ignorance. The average word usage in Ebonics is under 300 words as reported
some years ago by an English professor here in an Ohio university.
He was vilified because of his written report.

But I stand by my spelling....

DefenSe, -- RuneScape Classic, all other spelling is a secondary variation,

Up here on the glacier, we are saturated with American television, and have been (ad nauseum) since the medium was invented.

Oddly enough, although we all understand American, we still speak English.

What baffles me is why the Government of Ontario spends hundreds of millions of dollars trying to teach kids in school French when only 4% of the population is native Francophone?

The tv show line-up, especially sit-coms, for the last 45 years has been geared to the audience who have the least knowledge
    of correct grammar.
Ad-nauseum, is my absolute feeling with approximately 90% of American produced TV shows.

I agree. Cater to the lowest common denominator.
I rarely watch US network television. The only good one I've seen lately is Mayans, but it's on FX. Not something you'd put on the regular stations.
But you guys used to be good at cartoons. Or maybe I'm just out of tune with the current crop.

The first ones were ok, The Simpsons, Bevis and Butthead.
But the ones following were just stupid in their dialogue.
The newest ones are a total insult to anyone with half a brain.

Sounds like a liberal agenda to me. I'm surprised that something like that was not started here by the Obama's. After all, he ONLY had 8 years in office.
